Sweden’s AP3 appoints Staffan Hansén as CEO

The Board of Sweden’s third national pension fund, AP3, has appointed Staffan Hansén as CEO, effective from no later than 1 December 2025.

He will replace Kerstin Hessius, who announced in March that she would leave AP3's CEO position after 18 years.

Hansén is currently the CEO of SPP Pension & Insurance and a member of the management group of Storebrand Group.

In addition to this, he was also CEO of Storebrand Asset Management and was responsible for fixed-income trading at Handelsbanken and Alfred Berg.

Commenting on the appointment, AP3 chair of the board, Christina Lindenius, said: "I am very pleased that we have recruited Staffan Hansén as the new CEO of AP3.

“With his long and broad experience in asset management and solid experience as a CEO and leader, I am convinced that Staffan Hansén - together with all the competent employees at AP3 - will create the best conditions for continued good development of the business and thus for the public pension system."

Adding to this, Hansén said: "I am very much looking forward to getting to know the employees at AP3, and together with them to continue delivering on the fund's important mission for the public pension system.

“I step into the CEO role with the ambition to continue developing AP3 as a world-class asset manager in a competent and pleasant working environment."
