News in brief: 2 April

- Sweden’s KPA Pension, part of the Folksam Group, is set to acquire a retirement home in Sollentuna from Skanska for approximately SEK 340m.

The Traktören 21 property, which includes the Villa Fågelsång retirement home, is located near the centre of Sollentuna. Vardaga Äldreomsorg AB and Nytida AB will operate the retirement home, which comprises 80 apartments as well as a group home under the LSS with six apartments.

Skanska will construct the retirement home, and the completion is tentatively scheduled for the first quarter of 2028. The goal of Villa Fågelsång is to achieve a carbon footprint approximately 35 per cent lower than the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning’s reference value during construction. It will also achieve energy class B with low carbon emissions during operation through measures such as energy-efficient design, district heating, and solar panels.

- The Dutch Pension Fund for Healthcare and Welfare (PFZW) has invested in GelijkGezond, a Dutch initiative aimed at improving health equality.

PFZW explained that GelijkGezond helps people who get stuck in the current healthcare and social support system and offers personalised support. The support workers play a crucial role in helping individuals regain a sense of control and peace of mind, as well as ensuring that people receive the right assistance more quickly.

The fund noted that its members and employers in the healthcare and welfare sector recognise the challenges faced by individuals in vulnerable situations when trying to access the appropriate support. GelijkGezond’s approach aims to help people on low incomes and reduce the pressure on healthcare and welfare professionals. Due to this, the fund believes the outcome of this investment contributes to a good pension for its members.

- Finnish earnings-related pension provider Varma has completed the sale of its residential properties to Lumo Kodit Oyj, the parent company of Lumo Housing Ltd.

The housing portfolio was transferred to the new landlord, Lumo Housing Ltd, on 1 April. At the same time, Varma has increased its ownership in Lumo Kodit Oyj and will continue to invest in housing as a significant shareholder.

The lease agreements and their terms for tenants living in Varma’s apartments will remain unchanged under the new landlord. Varma and Lumo Kodit first announced that they had agreed on the sale of the residential properties in February. Lumo Kodit Oyj was formerly known as Kojamo Oyj and changed its name in March 2026.
