Over 9,000 Irish workers opt in to new AE system

More than 9,000 Irish employees have successfully opted in to the new auto-enrolment scheme in Ireland, MyFutureFund, the Department for Social Protection has revealed.

Its Annual Report 2025 noted that MyFutureFund had 824,000 eligible participants across 111,000 employers, as at the end of May 2026.

More than 1.5 million payroll submissions have been received and processed.

The new system has completed its implementation period and prepared for the enrolment of 750,000 members from January 2026.

The Department for Social Protection said it has continued with its preparations for MyFutureFund, which it described as a “landmark reform” to ensure people had adequate retirement income in the future.

Employees will be automatically enrolled into the scheme if they earn more than €20,000 per year, are aged between 23 and 60, and are not paying into a pension through their payroll.

Pension contributions will be made by the employee, employer, and the state, with the government providing a top-up contribution of €1 for every €3 saved.

“The department’s mission remains unchanged: to promote active participation and inclusion in society through the provision of income supports, employment services and other services,” commented Irish Minister for Social Protection, Dara Calleary.

“The department’s work in 2025 has positioned us strongly for the coming year, particularly with the launch of MyFutureFund coming in early 2026 and our ongoing focus on tackling poverty, improving employment outcomes and supporting families.”
