The Finnish Association of Pension Funds (ESY) has appointed Mats Nyman as CEO, following the news that its long-term CEO, Timo Toropainen, will step down at the end of the year.
Nyman will start his new position in November and joins from Akava's Experts and Supervisors ASIA, where he served as executive director.
In his career, he has worked in politics and in social advocacy and holds a master’s degree in political science.
Commenting on the news, ESY chairman of the board and Finnish Broadcasting Company Pension Fund managing director, Topi Piela, said: “We are pleased to have Mats Nyman as the new CEO of ESY. Thanks to his background and experience, he has the right skills to lead ESY in a situation where general uncertainty also challenges the pension system in many ways.
“Under Nyman's leadership, our goal is to increase the visibility and impact of ESY and to build trust and cooperation both between stakeholders and within the pension sector.”
Adding to this, Nyman said: “I would like to thank the ESY Board for the trust they have placed in me. The social debate on pensions will continue actively, and it seems that our pension system will continue to be at the heart of the political debate during the next government term. In this context, it is important to remind people of the diversity of our pension system.”
