EIOPA appoints Johan Lundström as occupational pensions group member

The board of supervisors of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) has appointed Swedish Insurance Association general counsel, Johan Lundström, as a member of its Occupational Pensions Stakeholder Group.

The group is tasked with advising EIOPA on various matters related to occupational pensions. It consists of 30 members, each serving a term of four years, with the possibility of extending their term for another four years.

EIOPA is one of the European Supervisory Authorities established in 2011.

To enhance its consultation with stakeholders, EIOPA has two distinct stakeholder groups: One focuses on insurance and reinsurance issues, and the other on occupational pensions.

Before making decisions on technical standards, guidelines, and recommendations, EIOPA will consult these groups.

The Occupational Pensions Stakeholder Group includes representatives from the occupational pension market, employees, beneficiaries, and academic institutions.

Commenting on his appointment, Lundström said: "The Swedish occupational pension market differs significantly from other national markets in Europe in several respects.

“I want to help to shed light on the Swedish perspectives and thus influence EIOPA's actions.

“Since EIOPA has become an increasingly important part of the EU's legislative process, my ambition is also to work for simpler, more proportionate regulations.”
