Denmark’s AkademikerPension names new head of global equities

Denmark’s AkademikerPension has appointed Dan Wejse as its new head of global equities, effective 1 October.

In the role, Wejse will be responsible for establishing a robust process for the internal active management of global equities, as well as overseeing the fund’s external global equity mandates.

He said his primary focus will be to deliver “an attractive and responsible long-term return” for the scheme’s 174,500 members.

AkademikerPension, which manages total investments of DKK 157bn, has built a strong reputation in Denmark for its responsible investment stance, particularly its exclusion policies and active ownership on sustainability issues.

The expansion of its global equities team - currently two people but soon to be three – reflects the fund’s ongoing efforts to strengthen in-house management, a growing trend among Nordic pension funds aiming to combine cost efficiency with closer oversight of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategies.

Commenting on the appointment, Wejse said he is “very much looking forward to starting” and thanked the firm's CIO, Anders Schelde, for his trust.
