News in brief: 12 September 2025

- The Finnish Migraine Association has awarded Veritas the Migraine-Friendly Workplace certificate.

The certificate is a new initiative designed to raise awareness and improve the working environment for employees living with migraine. Earlier this year, Veritas conducted an internal survey on staff knowledge and workplace conditions, which led to measures including training for managers and office lighting adjustments. Commenting on the project, Veritas product specialist, Pirta Toivonen, said the most important contribution was “increased awareness”, adding that the measures taken would benefit all employees. Human resources specialist, Helleka Salonen, confirmed the company will continue to develop its environment to remain a migraine-friendly workplace.

- Pensioenfonds UWV has published a funding update for August, showing improved performance.

At the end of the month, its policy coverage ratio stood at 119.4 per cent, compared to 119.2 per cent in July. In addition, its current coverage ratio stood at 123.4 per cent, an increase of 0.3 per cent from the previous month. The figures follow comments from Aon Netherlands last month, which credited the broader improvement in average Dutch pension fund coverage ratios to stronger equity markets and rising interest rates. Aon also highlighted the recent easing of geopolitical tensions - particularly after the passage of the US ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’ - as having supported investor sentiment.

- The Dutch Association of Insurers and the Dutch Pension Federation have released the draft Uniform Pension Overview (UPO) models for 2026.

The drafts apply to pre-Wtp schemes and have been published alongside updated manuals on pensioenmodellen.nl. A new icon has been introduced for models 1-3 to prevent participants from confusing the taxable annual margin for net pensions with factor A. The industry bodies said the draft Wtp models for 2026 will also be published shortly and “will be helpful to pension administrators”.

- LCP has released its August 2025 investment summary, reporting mixed performance across markets and strategies.

Global equities rose 2.1 per cent in local currency terms, with Eurozone markets up 0.5 per cent and North America down 0.2 per cent in euro terms. European equities benefited from a stronger PMI reading and record-low unemployment, though political uncertainty in France dampened momentum. Meanwhile, the funding level of LCP’s sample defined benefit (DB) scheme held steady at around 105 per cent, while its high-risk defined contribution (DC) strategy posted positive returns and its medium-risk and pension purchase strategies declined.

- Germany’s Cockpit Association (VC) has launched a ballot after negotiations with Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cargo over pilots’ pensions broke down.

The ballot will run from 12 September until the end of the month, with no industrial action planned until it is concluded. VC president, Andreas Pinheiro, said Lufthansa had failed to present a serious offer during seven rounds of negotiations, stating: “It always follows the same pattern: The employer blocks and stonewalls, rejects everything, refuses to compromise - and then complains when we leave the negotiating table.”
