Swedish pension authorities appoint MSCI and Clarity AI for sustainability analysis

The Swedish Fund Selection Agency (FTN) and the Swedish Pensions Agency have procured new systems to support the sustainability analysis of funds within Sweden’s premium pension system.

Contracts have been signed with MSCI ESG Research Limited and Clarity AI, with the systems set to be used both during the fund procurement process and for the ongoing monitoring of funds included in the premium pension platform.

The contracts run for an initial period of three years, with the option to extend for up to six years in total.

Implementation of the new solutions is scheduled for later in January.

FTN executive director, Erik Fransson, said the procurement would secure long-term access to relevant sustainability data.

“This ensures the Swedish Fund Selection Agency’s access to relevant sustainability data over a longer period of time,” Fransson continued.

“The fact that these particular providers have been selected does not affect the agency’s positions on individual sustainability issues; the systems are used solely as input for information gathering and analysis,” he added.

The move reflects the continued emphasis placed by Swedish pension authorities on structured sustainability assessment as part of fund selection and oversight within the premium pension system.
