Swedish Pensions Agency to make SEK 12.5bn of premium pension deposits

The Swedish Pensions Agency (SPA) will start making deposits of SEK 12.5bn into pension savers’ and pensioners’ premium pension accounts on 5 May.

These fund discounts and inheritance gains are deposited at the same time as premium pension contributions are deducted.

The SEK 12.5bn is an increase on the deposits made last year, when SEK 11.85bn was deposited into premium pension accounts.

This year, fund discounts made up approximately SEK 6.3bn of the total, while inheritance gains made up around SEK 6.7bn.

Transfer profit was SEK 11m and there were SEK 441m in fees.

The fund companies discount their fund fees to participate in the premium pension fund market.

This discount is passed on to savers and pensioners once a year, with the money being used to buy more fund units for the savers’ premium pension accounts.

The capital-weighted fund fee was an average of 0.13 per cent of managed capital in 2022.

Without the fund market's discount, the average capital-weighted fee would have been 0.45 per cent instead.

“Premium pension savers and pensioners now get back SEK 12.5bn in discounts and inheritance gains,” commented SPA analysis department head, Ole Settergren.

“The amount has been negatively affected due to the stock market's development in 2022.

“But overall, deposits have increased thanks to more people earning premium pensions for a longer period of time.”
