Sweden’s FTN procures actively managed global technology funds

The Swedish Fund Selection Agency (FTN) has announced its award decisions in the procurement of actively managed global technology funds for the premium pension fund platform.

A total of seven fund managers have been awarded fund agreements across eight funds, with five of the eight funds having been previously available on the platform and three being new.

The award decision means that approximately SEK 180bn of premium pension savers’ assets will be allocated to the procured funds.

Lannebo Kapitalförvaltning AB had two funds selected: Lannebo Global Growth and Lannebo Teknik, both of which were previously available.

The other funds chosen that were previously available were SEB Funds AB’s SEB Teknologifond; Skandia Fonder AB’s Skandia Time Global; and Swedbank Robur Fonder AB’s Swedbank Robur Technology A.

The three selected funds that were new to the platform were Goldman Sachs Asset Management BV’s Goldman Sachs US Technology Opportunities Equity Portfolio; Janus Henderson Investors Europe SA’s Janus Henderson Horizon Global Technology Leaders Fund; and Schroder Investment Management (Europe)’s Schroder International Selection Fund Global Innovation.

Around 480,000 pension savers have holdings in the funds affected by the procurement.

Funds that have not been selected in the category will be deregistered from the fund platform after a phase-out period.

“Our mandate is to safeguard the interests of pension savers,” commented FTN chair, Mats Dillén.

“Through this procurement, savers gain access to a quality-assured range of technology funds, while fees are also being significantly reduced.”

FTN executive director, Erik Fransson, added: “Technology funds are one of the larger categories on the fund platform.

“It is therefore particularly important that we have had a competitive process in which the funds have been carefully assessed.

“Since five of the procured funds were already available on the fund platform, most savers will not need to switch funds.

“At the same time, the procurement means that these funds have been evaluated in a competitive process, and several of them will be offered at a lower fee than previously.”
