Sampension delivers DKK 18.4bn return despite 2025 market turbulence

Denmark’s Sampension has reported strong investment performance in 2025, delivering DKK 18.4bn in returns to customers despite periods of significant market volatility, up from DKK 17.2bn in 2024.

For Sampension Liv customers aged 51 and under in the moderate-risk category, the return was 11 per cent in 2025, and over five years, the return for this age group stands at 49 per cent.

Sampension CEO, Mads Smith Hansen, said: “In many ways, 2025 was a turbulent year, not least due to Trump’s arrival in the White House. This was also reflected in the financial markets, which were at times characterised by severe turbulence and considerable uncertainty.

“Despite this, the year turned out to be a really good one for investment, with us securing some of the best returns in the market for our clients. That is, of course, very satisfying.”

The pension company’s balance sheet grew by DKK 11bn to DKK 348bn in 2025, whilst the number of customers and members in the group rose by 3,000 to over 358,000.

Last year also saw current contributions increase to DKK 11bn, up from DKK 10.3bn in 2024. It attributed the increase to the two-year collective agreements in the public sector, which were concluded during the collective bargaining negotiations in 2024.

Total contributions to Sampension amounted to DKK 14.8bn in 2025, compared with DKK 16bn in 2024. In 2023, they stood at DKK 12.9bn.

Customer deposits and transfers amounted to DKK 2.8bn in 2025, down from DKK 4.6bn in 2024. However, Sampension said deposits and transfers were exceptionally high in 2024, as it had welcomed its largest corporate pension client to date, DLBR.

For comparison, customer deposits and transfers amounted to DKK 2.7bn in both 2023 and 2022.

Looking forward, Smith Hansen said the company faces several important decisions and initiatives in 2026. This includes the implementation of its IT strategy, more flexible insurance products and closer dialogue with potential corporate clients.

Sampension is customer-owned and manages occupational and company pensions for Sampension Life Insurance, the Architects & Designers Pension Fund (PAD), the Pension Fund for Agricultural Graduates & Veterinarians (PJD) and ISP Pension.
