Dutch Pension fund SNS Reaal has appointed Maarten Beisterveld and Teodora Bankova to its accountability body, on behalf of the employees of the ASN Bank.
At the same time, SNS Reaal announced that three members of the accountability body, Hans Jacobs, Frans Lacon and Dirk Buijs, will be stepping down. The fund and the accountability body thanked them for their commitment and contribution over the past few years.
Beisterveld has worked in banking for many years and has been at ASN Bank since 2018, currently focusing on finance, data & reporting, as well as accounting.
Meanwhile, Bankova works at ASN Bank in risk, where she has spent the past four years in internal audit, and has just completed her master's degree in Internal Auditing at the University of Amsterdam.
Both Beisterveld and Bankova are enthusiastic about the role and want to serve in the accountability body to challenge and support the board.
Beisterveld explained that he has always been interested in pensions, particularly as they have really changed.
He noted that in the past, pensions were fixed with people retiring at 62, but now retirement age is shifting, and people are accruing pensions with multiple employers and in different ways. He also highlighted the role of the new pension rules in this change, allowing the size of pensions to fluctuate more.
Both Beisterveld and Bankova said they want to emphasise the importance of trust in their new roles.
“Participants and pensioners must be able to count on their interests being carefully represented. Pensions belong to all of us,” Bankova said.
“I am keen to contribute to a good pension for everyone. A good pension is important for enjoying life after retirement,” Beisterveld concluded.
The accountability body advises the board and monitors the pension fund’s plans on behalf of the active employees of ASN Bank and Athora, all inactive participants and the participants who are already receiving a pension from the fund.
ASN Bank was part of the SNS Reaal group but in 2013, SNS Reaal was nationalised due to financial issues and the banking and insurance branches were separated.
In 2016, ASN Bank N.V., RegioBank N.V., and SNS Bank N.V. were legally merged into what is now De Volksbank N.V. and currently ASN Bank operates as an independent brand under De Volksbank, alongside SNS and RegioBank.
