Pensioenfonds PostNL policy funding ratio rises to 125%

The policy funding of Pensioenfonds PostNL has increased to 125 per cent over April, the fund has revealed.

This is an increase of 1.1 percentage points from MArcg when the policy finding ratio stood at 123.9 per cent. The policy funding ratio is the average of the current funding ratios from the past 12 months.

A year ago, in April 2021, the current funding ratio was 122.3 per cent. A year later, at the end of April 2022, the funding ratio is 12.8 percentage points higher, standing at 135.1 per cent. This is also an increase of 4.5 percentage points since March 2022, when it stood at 130.6 per cent.

Pensioenfonds PostNL explained that the development of the funding ratio depends on the level of the investments and the provisions. The value of the investments fell by 3.44 per cent in April, which had a negative effect on the current funding ratio.

However, interest rates rose for the fifth month in a row in April, which, in turn, had a positive effect on the funding ratio. The effect of the rise in interest rates was considerably greater this time than the effect of the fall in investments.

“The board regularly discusses developments in the markets and in the investment portfolio with the investment advisers. This ensures proper monitoring of whether and when additional measures may be required. No additional measures are required at this time. The pension fund also has a crisis plan that provides guidance,” the fund stated.
