The President of the Republic of France, Emmanuel Macron, has appointed Paul Bazin as director of the French National Pension Insurance Fund (Caisse Nationale de l’assurance retraite - CNAV), on the recommendation of the French Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu.
Bazin succeeds Renaud Villard, who has served as director of CNAV since March 2016.
He is a graduate of the École nationale d’administration, HEC Paris and Sciences Po Paris.
Bazin began his career at the General Inspectorate of Finance, where he led several audit, evaluation and advisory assignments focusing on social protection, employment, family policies and housing.
In 2017, he joined Pôle Emploi, which has since become France Travail, where he held the posts of deputy director-general in charge of strategy, then of operations, before being appointed deputy director-general.
Since 2024, Bazin has served as social adviser to the Prime Minister, heading the Labour, Pensions, Health and Solidarity Division.
Bazin’s knowledge of social policies and issues relating to employment and social protection, as well as his experience of managing a major public organisation, are “major assets” in supporting CNAV as it continues to fulfil its public service remit and addresses the challenges posed by an ageing population.
Commenting on his appointment, Bazin said: “I am delighted to be able to serve the French people during a key period of their lives, working alongside all the teams at the Pension Authority to provide them with a high-quality, people-centred and efficient service.”
