News in brief: 18 July

- The Government Pension Fund Norway (Folketrygdfondet) has announced its summer interns for 2025 and what work areas they will focus on.

Oscar Bretteville, Ida Karoline Løken, David Skistad and Frida Håberg Seternes will gain an insight into the entire asset management profession throughout the summer, in addition to working on dedicated assignments. For example, in the equity department, Oscar and David will use language models to create a valuation model for companies in the technology sector. In the fixed income department, Frida and Ida will build a classification algorithm for new bonds.

- The Netherlands Pensioenfonds UWV has revealed that its webinars on the new pension rules had high attendance.

On 1 and 3 July, over 1,750 people watched its webinars on the new pension rules. One was for members in the accumulation phase, and one for pensioners in receipt of their pension. More than 100 questions were asked during the webinars, and although the pension fund could not answer them all during the session, it is planning to email members with answers.

- Ireland’s Women in Finance Charter has recorded significant progress in gender diversity across the financial services sector.

Female representation reached 36.3 per cent at board level, 43.4 per cent in senior management, and 22.6 per cent among CEOs. Signatories to the Charter commit to setting targets for increased female representation. In January 2025, there were 100 signatory firms to the Charter, which accounted for over 72,000 employees, representing over half of all employees in the financial services sector.
