Irish managed pension funds surge by 8% in November – Rubicon

Irish managed pension funds saw average returns of 8 per cent in November, according to Rubicon Investment Consulting.

All of the funds saw positive returns over the month, with New Ireland delivering the best performance at 10.9 per cent, whilst Friends First was the worst performer with a return of 6.6 per cent.

Rubicon Investment Consulting said that as a result of November’s gains Irish pension managed funds are firmly back in the black, with an average return of 4.2 per cent over the first eleven months of 2020.

However, there is a wide array of returns within this average. Of the funds surveyed, Merrion Investment Managers’ delivered the best performance over the year to date, with a gain of 18.3 per cent, while New Ireland’s underperformed the rest of the peer group, with a return of -5.3 per cent.

Over the past 12 months, Irish pension managed funds are up 5.1 per cent on average. Returns for the past year ranged from +18.6 per cent (Merrion Investment Managers) to -4.6 per cent (Setanta Asset Management).

The average managed fund return has been 6.1 per cent per annum over the past three years. The five-year average return is 5.3 per cent per annum. Irish group pension managed fund returns over the past 10 years have been a healthy 8.7 per cent per annum on average.
