Growth of non-AE workers more than double AE worker growth

Growth in the number of non-enrolled workers has outpaced that of auto-enrolled (AE) workers for the eighth consecutive month in March in the UK, with an increase of 31,000 unenrolled workers, more than double the growth seen amongst AE workers in the month.

As reported by our sister title, Pensions Age, The Pension Regulator's Automatic enrolment declaration of compliance report showed that the number of enrolled employees increased by around 14,000 during the period, which also represented a fall on the previous months growth, when an increase of 25,000 was recorded.

Non-enrolled worker growth has, however, also slowed in pace, with the number of unenrolled employees increasing 49,000 in February 2021.

More broadly, the total number of eligible employers has increased by 53,000 to 32,703,000, whilst the number of employers confirming the completion of their declaration of compliance increased by 15,635 to 1,825,615.

The figures are compiled from information submitted by employers when they complete their declaration of compliance with AE.

TPR said the figure for AE jobholders was likely to be higher than that shown in the report, as some employers will have reached their duties start date and automatically enrolled their eligible employees without having completed their declaration.
