Finland’s Varma elects new Supervisory Board members

Finnish earnings-related pension provider Varma has elected eight new members to its Supervisory Board at its annual general meeting (AGM) on 13 March.

The newly elected members include Sweco Finland Oy CEO, Thomas Hietto, Attendo Oy CEO, Virpi Holmqvist, Metsä Board Corporation CEO, Esa Kaikkonen, and Stora Enso Oyj director - foodservice and liquid board, Markku Luoto.

Additionally, Union of Salaried Employees Erto executive director, Teemu Miettinen, Kemira Oyj CFO (as of 1 April 2026), Tuomas Mäkipeska, Broman Group Oy CEO, Toni Stigzelius, and Tehy ry general counsel, Kari Tiainen, were elected as new members of the Supervisory Board.

The AGM approved the financial reports and released the Board of Directors, the Supervisory Board, and the president and CEO from any responsibility.

Alongside this, Christoph Vitzthum was re-elected as chairman, and Päivi Leiwo and Petri Vanhala were re-elected as vice chairs.

In addition to the chairman and vice chairs' re-elections, 21 members of the supervisory board were re-elected at the AGM.

This included: Ari Akseli, Kim Forsström, Marko Hovinmäki, Janne-Olli Järvenpää, Jukka Jäämaa, Risto Kalliorinne, Anne Karjalainen, Ville Kopra, Tapio Korpeinen, Jari Korpela, Pekka Kuusniemi, Hanna Lylander, Elisa Markula, Pasi Pesonen, Marko Piirainen, Perttu Puro, Simo Pöyhönen, Pekka Tiitinen, Tarja Tyni, Jorma Vehviläinen and Anssi Vuorio.

The AGM also saw Varma decide to increase the annual and meeting fees of the Supervisory Board.

The annual allowance of the chairman of the Supervisory Board was increased from €8,640 to €8,810, while for the vice chairs, it was raised from €6,480 to €6,600, and for other members, it was increased from €4,320 to €4,400.

The changes also saw the meeting fee increase from €650 to €660 per meeting. These fees were last increased in 2025.

The AGM elected Ernst & Young Oy, a firm of authorised public accountants, as the auditor and assurance officer of sustainability reporting for the financial year 2026.

It was also announced that authorised public accountant, Kristina Sandin, will serve as the principal auditor and assurance officer for sustainability reporting.
