Else-Mai Kirvesniemi appointed to Varma’s Board of Directors

Varma has appointed Else-Mai Kirvesniemi, executive director of Tehy ry, to its Board of Directors, effective 1 January 2026.

Kirvesniemi was elected by Varma’s Supervisory Board at its meeting on 26 November and will replace Antti Palola, chairman of STTK ry, who is stepping down from the Board.

Several members whose terms were due to end will continue in their roles, including Anu Ahokas, Kristiina Mäkelä, Pekka Piispanen and Saana Siekkinen. Deputy members Jari Elo, Jouni Hakala and Ville Talasmäki will also remain on the Board.

From the beginning of 2026, the Board will consist of Riku Aalto, chairman of the Federation of Finnish Technology Industries; Anu Ahokas, group CEO of StaffPoint Group; and Nina Arkilahti, business director at Nordea.

The deputy members will be Jari Elo, executive director of the Finnish Business School Graduates Association; Jouni Hakala, representing the EK Foundation and the Confederation of Finnish Industries; and Ville Talasmäki, chief investment officer at Sampo Group.

The Board will elect its chair and two vice-chairs at its meeting scheduled for 14 January 2026.

The Supervisory Board also approved an increase of approximately two per cent in Board remuneration from the start of next year. The annual fee for the chair will rise to €52,140, while the vice-chairs and the chair of the audit committee will receive €37,090. Board members will earn €20,860 annually, and deputy members €15,060. The meeting fee will increase from €650 to €660. The previous fee adjustment was implemented in 2025.

All members of Varma’s Board of Directors are insured under Section 8 of the Employees’ Pensions Act, with TyEL contributions paid on their remuneration.
