The Dutch Pension Federation (Pensioenfederatie) has announced that it will end its membership of Pensions Europe as of 1 January 2026, due to a difference of opinion between the federation and several members of the association.
The group said that the disagreement centred on the management of the supporting office, the strategic future, and the financing of Pensions Europe.
Pensioenfederatie said that it had "long sought a constructive dialogue and proposed various solutions", but that "unfortunately, this has not led to an agreed solution".
Whilst the group did not provide further reasoning on the decision, it noted that Jacques van Dijken, who currently chairs PensionsEurope and "performs this role excellently", will step down as chairman before the end of the year.
Van Dijken was elected as PensionsEurope chairperson earlier this year, following the departure of Jerry Moriarty.
While Pensioenfederatie expressed its regret over the situation, it confirmed that it will, together with members and pension providers, continue to represent the interests of the Dutch pension sector in Brussels.
Pensioenfederatie also said that it will continue to proactively participate in European policy discussions through its membership of the European Association of Paritarian Institutions (AEIP).
PensionsEurope has been contacted for comment.
