AMF elects Katarina Ljungqvist as chair of the board

Swedish pension company AMF has elected Katarina Ljungqvist as the new chair of the board at its annual general meeting (AGM), succeeding Lars Wedenborn, who has held the position since 2020.

Ljungkvist studied law at the School of Economics in Gothenburg and served as Kommuninvest CEO until 2025.

She has also previously held several senior positions at Handelsbanken, including head of business development and head of Handelsbanken in Western Sweden.

In addition to Ljungqvist’s appointment, LO chief economist, Torbjörn Hållö, and LF former head of asset management, Göran Laurén, were elected as new members of the board.

Meanwhile, Bengt-Åke Fagerman and Lars Hildingson stepped down from the board. The other members of the board were re-elected.

Commenting on the news, Confederation of Swedish Enterprise deputy director general, Mattias Dahl, said: “I am delighted that, following a thorough recruitment process involving many highly qualified candidates, we have been able to appoint Katarina Ljungqvist as the new chair of the board at AMF. Katarina Ljungqvist has extensive knowledge of and experience in the financial sector.”

“Together with the newly elected board, [Ljungqvist] will help to strengthen and develop AMF’s vital work in providing our members with the best and most secure occupational pension possible,” LO chair, Johan Lindholm, added.

“For LO, occupational pensions are about real money in the wallets of hundreds of thousands of members when they retire. AMF plays a crucial role here, and I am confident that Katarina Ljungkvist will manage that responsibility well.”

Adding to this, Ljungqvist noted that she is “proud and honoured to have been entrusted with the task of leading AMF’s board” and looks forward to “managing and developing this mission together with the newly elected board and AMF’s talented staff”.

Following the 2026 AGM, AMF’s Board of Directors consists of the following individuals: chair of the board, Katarina Ljungqvist; Renée Andersson; Anders Canemy; Therese Guovelin; Torbjörn Hållö; Göran Laurén; Helena Nordberg; Marie Rudberg; and Tomas With.

Meanwhile, the employee representatives are Jann Wiebols (Akademikerföreningen) and Susan Alrawi (Forena).
