PensionDanmark CIO to step down after more than two decades

PensionDanmark chief investment officer (CIO), Claus Stampe, will step down at the end of January 2027 after more than two decades in the role.

Stampe has led the development of the Danish pension company’s investment function for 23 years.

During his time, he led the construction of a broadly diversified investment portfolio across listed and unlisted assets.

"Earlier this year, I turned 65, and I now want to have more time for my interests outside of work,” Stampe said.

“At the same time, I am leaving behind a strong and well-functioning investment function that is well equipped for the future. Therefore, the decision and the timing feel right to me.”

Stampe noted that while he had been in the industry for many years, he could not remember a more exciting and unpredictable period than the one it is in now.

“Geopolitical tensions and rapid technological development will undoubtedly have a major impact on the future development of the economy and financial markets,” he continued.

“Therefore, I am looking forward to a few busy months, and for me it will be business as usual until the end of January.”

Stampe has also been a member of PensionDanmark's Executive Board since 2024, together with CEO, Peter Stensgaard Mørch.

"Claus deserves great recognition for his efforts for PensionDanmark over 23 years,” said Stensgaard Mørch.

“Here he has ensured members one of the industry's best and most robust returns, created the industry's strongest investment team and contributed to the development of PensionDanmark across the board.

"Personally, I couldn't have imagined a better sparring partner. Claus has helped onboard me to the company, and I really appreciate our collaboration. Claus deserves a special thank you for that."

PensionDanmark’s recruitment of a new CIO will be initiated “as soon as possible”, the pension company stated.
