European inflation up in September

Annual inflation for the Euro area was up both year-on-year and month-on-month in September, according to new figures from Eurostat for the European Commission.

Statistics released today show that annual inflation for the area was 3% in September, up from 2.5% in August and 1.9% at the same time last year.

Inflation for the European Union sat at 3.3% in September, up from 2.9% in August and 2.3% a year earlier. Monthly inflation was 0.6% in September.

The lowest annual rates across EU member states were observed in Ireland, at 1.3%, followed by Sweden and the Czech Republic on 1.5% and 2.1%, respectively. Conversely, the highest rates were experienced in Estonia and Lithuania at 5.4% and 4.7%.
