EU inflation stable for November

Euro area inflation remained stable at 3% in November with EU inflation also unchanged at 3.4% compared with October according to the latest figures from Eurostat.

A year earlier, euro area inflation was recorded at 1.9% and the EU inflation rate was 2.3%. The lowest annual rates for November were found in Sweden, Malta and Ireland respectively. Sweden recorded an inflation rate of 1.1%, Malta a rate of 1.5% and Ireland a rate of 1.7%.

Highest annual rates were recorded in Slovakia and the UK (4.8%). In addition, Estonia, Lithuania and Poland all experienced rates of 4.4%.

In comparison with October, annual inflation fell in 14 member states, remained stable in three and rose in ten.

Concerning the euro area, the main components with the highest annual rates were transport (5.4%) which decreased from 5.8% in October, housing (5.3%) which increased from 5.1% in the previous month and alcohol and tobacco (4.3%). The lowest annual rates were observed in communications (-1.7%), recreation and culture (0.5%) and education (0.9%).
