The European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) has announced outgoing secretary general of the European Federation for Retirement Provision Chris Verhaegen has been elected chair of the authority’s Occupational Pensions Stakeholder Group.

Benne van Popta has been appointed vice-chair, while Michaela Koller and Kay Blair were elected chair and vice-chair of the Insurance and Reinsurance Stakeholder Group.

In a statement announcing the appointments, EIOPA said the stakeholder groups were established in March to facilitate the authority’s consultation with stakeholders in Europe.

Consultation covers issues such as the development of regulation and implementing technical standards, as well as the guidelines and recommendations that apply to the insurance and occupational pensions industry.

Members of the stakeholder groups can submit opinions and advice to EIOPA on any issue related to its work. Furthermore, the stakeholder groups are expected to notify EIOPA of any inconsistent application of European Union law as well as inconsistent supervisory practices in the different European member states.
