Managing Director Investment Advisory at JLT Pension Capital Strategies Antony Barker was announced as the winner of the Personality of the Year award at the European Pensions annual awards ceremony in London last week.
Barker was selected from a shortlist of eight, after a voting process which attracted a high volume of responses from right across the European pensions industry.
Work on the UK’s Pension Protection Fund (PPF) and advising bookseller WHSmith on their ground-breaking derivatives transaction count among Barker’s achievements.
At JLT he has pioneered a “manager free” low-cost shared service model, allowing funds to pool resources to acquire lower-risk/higher-return infrastructure. Barker has also commoditised contingent finance structures, making them accessible to funds of any size or jurisdiction.
Chief executive of JLT Employee Benefits Duncan Howorth said Barker embodies a ‘25/8’ culture, and is always looking for innovative opportunities to succeed unconventionally.
“This award vindicates that attitude and the success that both he and his clients have enjoyed. However, more importantly, he’s made it interesting, stimulating and fun and I'm very pleased to see that recognised by all those that must have voted for him,” Howorth said.
