EU and EA economic sentiment rises for second month in a row

The Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) has grown for the second month in a row in both the EU and euro area according to the European Commission (EC).

Economic confidence in the EU rose by 1.1 points from 92.8 to 93.9 points between January and February. For the euro area, sentiment increased from 93.4 to 94.4 points in the same period.

Of the member states, the ESI for Poland rose by 1.7 points from 91.2 to 92.9 followed closely by the Netherlands and Italy where sentiment increased by 1.2 and 1.0 points, respectively. Within the UK environment, the ESI increased by just 0.3 points.

The EC’s figures also showed that confidence in industry improved in both the EU (+1.8) and euro area (+1.2).
