Matti Leppälä will succeed Chris Verhaegen as secretary general at the European Federation of Retirement Provision (EFRP) in December 2011.

Leppälä has been director – international, investment and legal affairs at the Finnish Pension Alliance TELA and has also been involved with the European Association of Paritarian Institutions (AEIP) and the OECD Private Pensions Working Group.

Chair Patrick Burke commented: “We always knew it was going to be very difficult to find a successor to Chris when this date arrived and we are deeply indebted to Chris for all she has done during her term at the helm of the EFRP. We are pleased that Chris will continue to influence pensions policy at the highest levels following her appointment as chair of the EIOPA Occupational Pensions Stakeholder Group and EFRP will continue to contribute strongly through industry representatives on the group.”

“We are extremely fortunate that in Matti we have found a leader in the field of workplace pensions and someone who shares our vision of the possibilities which are open for the further development of work-related funded supplementary pensions that are adequate, secure, sustainable and affordable.”
