Euro area annual inflation remained stable at 2.7% over last month, while EU inflation fell to 3.1% according to new figures from Eurostat.

At the same time last year, Euro area annual inflation was at 2.7%, while the May figure in 2010 was 1.5%. Monthly inflation was 0.0% in June 2011.

EU inflation fell slightly from 3.2% in May, while last year the rate was 1.9%. Monthly inflation was -0.1% in June 2011.

The lowest annual rate in the EU was observed in Sweden, at 1.5%. Slovenia followed at 1.6%, then the Czech Republic at 1.9%. Conversely, the highest rate was registered in Romania at 8.0%. Estonia and Lithuania followed, at 4.9% and 4.8%, respectively.

Compared with May 2011, annual inflation fell in 14 member states, remained stable in six and rose in six.

The main components with the highest annual rates for the Euro area in June 2011 were transport (5.3%), housing (4.8%) and food (2.7%), while the lowest annual rates were observed for communications, recreation & culture and clothing at -1.2%, 0.4%, 1.0%, respectively.

Telecommunications, garments, and rents had the biggest downward impacts at -0.13, -0.09, and -0.08, respectively.
