Positive change for economic activity in OECD area

Economic activity in the OECD area showed signs of a positive change in momentum in December, according to the OECD’s latest composite leading indicators.

Statistics show that CLI figures increased from 100.2 points in November to 100.4 points in December. In addition, there was also a positive change experienced in Japan and the US. Japan’s CLIs increased from 101.7 to 101.9 and the US rose from 101.3 to 102.0.

Figures for the euro area and Brazil point to signs of below trend growth but at the same time also showed that the CLI’s for these areas are beginning to show signs of stability. Brazil’s statistics remained stable at 93.7 and the euro area witnessed month on month growth rates of -0.1.

The CLI for China pointed more strongly to a slowdown this month than in last month’s assessment. Figures fell from 99.8 to 99.3 points.
