News in Brief - December 2009

BlackRock has completed its merger with Barclays Global Investors (BGI), including its iShares exchange traded funds business. The firm will operate under the BlackRock name, but the iShares brand will be retained.

State Street Corporation has announced that it is expanding its global fund administration and alternative servicing capabilities, with an agreement to acquire Mourant International Finance Administration (MIFA) in a cash transaction. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2010, pending regulatory approval and other closing conditions.

Sun Life Financial of Canada has made a series of changes to its flexible retirement income product, i2Live. The underlying fund range has been increased to 79 funds, and now includes eight new tracker funds, providing access to each major equity market, and nine new M&G funds. These are predominantly focusing on fixed income, but also include property and the M&G Recovery fund.
