HOST FOR THE EVENING: CHRIS BARRIE
The European Pensions Awards, now in their second year,
were hosted by actor and comedian Chris Barrie. Chris is
best known for his performance as the marvellously annoying
leisure centre manager Gordon Brittas in The Brittas Empire.
He also played the deeply sad Arnold Rimmer in Red Dwarf,
the man who only made love to a woman once in his entire
life (and this was only after she had been hit on the head
by a winch).
Chris appeared with Angelina Jolie as Hilary
the butler in the Tomb Raider movies. He also fronted Chris
Barrie's Massive Engines for Discovery, in which he explored
the development of trains, diggers, airships and various
other industrial wonders. In a similar vein, he popped up
as team captain in BBC2's Petrol Heads, with Richard Hammond
and Neil Morrisey.
Originally an impressionist, Chris's career
began as a cornerstone of the pioneering Spitting Image
team. He performed the voices for Ronald Reagan, Prince
Charles, David Coleman, Paul Daniels, Barry Norman and John
Cole.
As well as speaking after dinner, Chris is
a seasoned awards host. Unable to curb his managerial enthusiasm,
he often appears in the guise of a close relative of Brittas.
He has also been known to pose audiences awkward health
and safety questions, like 'what would you do if a tiger
were to rampage through your office?'
